New Celiac Disease Foundation Connections Group in Lexington, Kentucky

Gluten Free in the Lexington Area

Greetings from the “soon to be official” GFLA – CDF Connections Group!! I would like to personally invite you to join us for a Dutch treat lunch at Carrabbas Italian Grill, 1881 Plaudit Place (near Hamburg Pavillion) on Saturday, April 22, at 12:00 noon. You can access their menu options at www.carrabbas.com We are hoping to raise awareness for the need of safe GF places to dine in the Lexington area and by eating out as a group – what better way to do so? I am looking forward to the experience – the first of many, I hope. We will also have our regular monthly meeting at Good Foods Market & Café , 455 Southland Drive (off Nicholasville Rd. ) at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening, April 27.

I also want to introduce to you my co-facilitator, Judy Michel. She was out of town when we met in March, but she has done a lot of work getting the CDF affiliation set up and I thank her so much for that. Since I live in AR as well as KY, I am not going to be able to attend every meeting (until we get permanently moved here). So, between the two of us, we hope that the needs of the group will be served efficiently. She also has lots of good ideas and connections for specific topics & speakers for our meetings, and I think you will benefit highly with staying in touch with the group. Since our group is growing, it is getting harder to stay in touch. So, we will soon have a combined email address for all CDF related information. This will make it easier for us to notify the group in bulk. However, you can still email either of us directly for personal communication if you need to.

For those who were at our first meeting in March, I want to thank you for your attendance. I also appreciate hearing from those who were not able to attend. I have sent out my “CookBook” and hope you received it. If not, please email me and I will send it to you. And I thank you so much for your encouraging words of appreciation. I have enjoyed putting the recipes together and will continue to add more. I have tried out all of the recipes myself. When getting a new recipe, I make it, and then either keep it, change it to fit my needs, or discard it. So if something doesn't work for you, do not hesitate to email and find out where it went wrong. These recipes need to be good dependable recipes that work. That doesn't mean they don't require time, effort and lots of kitchen utensils, though.

Judy will be facilitating the meeting on the 27 th , since I will be back in AR. She will be glad to answer any questions you may have, or refer you to someone who can. She has lots of additional information for you that I did not have last month. In the coming months, we hope to have a variety of guest speakers, discussions on dealing with cross-contamination, dining out issues, cooking in a non-GF kitchen, children/teens with CD, monitoring the GF lifestyle, GF cooking classes, etc.

We're looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, the 22 nd at Carrabbas, and/or at Good Foods on Thursday the 27 th . If you do know you can come to Carrabbas, please let me know so I can have an idea of how many might attend. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either of us.

Sincerely,

Jan Falwell falwell@cablelynx.com
