Celiac Kids go to Summer Camp 2007 and have a blast!!
This past summer was a big success for celiac kids who got to attend summer camp! Being able to have fun, learn new skills and make friends and not have to worry about what they can eat at every meal (everything was Gluten-Free) was a true vacation! This was a once in a lifetime experience of just being a kid at summer camp.
For the third year, CDF/Team Gluten-Free™, awarded camp scholarships to 13 celiac children based on essays they wrote on why they would like to go to Gluten Free Summer Camp. This year the children who participated in the scholarship program chose camps in Texas and Rhode Island.
CDF and Team Gluten-Free ™ along with the Taylor Family Foundation, and Celiac Sprue Research Foundation, co-sponsored over 80 celiac children to attend Camp Arroyo in Livermore, California in August for 4 days of gluten free summer fun and activities.
A special Thank You to Elaine Taylor who donated the site for the camp, to Jackie Scott Corley who coordinated the registration, as well as her husband Doug Corley, MD and the 30 adults who volunteered to be camp counselors!

All of the vendors and supporters who contributed to Camp Arroyo can be found on the camp website at www.celiaccamp.com
Thanks also to Phyllis Kessler, President and all the members of the West Palm Beach/Del Ray, Florida CDF Chapter for their contribution of $2500 that helped sponsor Camp Arroyo.

Looking ahead ---In August 2008 Camp Arroyo, Livermore, California, an old-fashioned summer camp for kids -- will be back next year for a full GF week: Sunday, August 3 through Friday, August 8. Registration materials will be available beginning February 1, 2008 at www.celiaccamp.com. Camp is free except for a $25 registration fee per camper. The Camp has already started recruiting volunteer counselors for camp. You, too, can have this amazing gluten-free experience by volunteering as a camp counselor.
